The Heart of the Fig Tree

The Heart of the Fig Tree is an installation presented in 2018 in the gardens of Villa Datris as part of a group exhibition.

Villa Datris, located in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, is an exceptional residence home to the foundation of the same name, dedicated to sculptural creation. Each year, a new theme shapes the selection of artists, offering a fresh exploration of contemporary sculpture.

For this installation, my work, usually rooted in the vegetal realm, took on a profoundly organic, almost animalistic dimension. I created a piece titled The Heart of the Fig Tree—a vast, gaping heart in shades of red and blue, resting among the branches of the Villa’s fig tree.

This piece did not leave viewers indifferent. Between emotion and fascination, admiration and unease, it elicited a range of reactions. I hear them, I welcome them, but I prefer to say no more. Some mystery must remain.

I invite you to discover some of these reactions in Beaux Arts Magazine, as well as on this page of my website, where you’ll find feedback on this and other exhibitions.
