At Villa Datris, the significance of open-air spaces in the history of sculpture is fully embraced: each year, artworks take over the gardens. Weaving and braiding are not limited to fabric but also extend to wood and metal in the monumental creations displayed in nature. Among them, Aude Franjou’s piece stands out. Le Cœur du figuier lives within the tree, intertwined with a network of hot-dyed linen braids. Like Ossip Zadkine and Giuseppe Penone before her, Aude Franjou shares a deep connection with trees, where the motif of nesting—an animal form of braiding—also evokes intimacy and femininity.
